Welcome to Summer - the season of connection

Summer is the season we are asked to move upward now as we leave behind the yang phase of spring and into the rising yang energy of summer. In Summer we feel the energy moving outward and the desire for gathering, connection and communication. The emotion of summer is joy and we can find ourselves being more social and planning regular meet ups with friends and family. Keeping our hearts open is important now and the challenge is to start in the truth of the heart and not get stuck up in the fiery energy of the head.

In Ayurveda, summer sees us still in the Pitta phase of the year bringing deeper awareness to the elements of fire and water elements. Fhe Pitta phase of the year and you will see Vata and Kapha types jumping for joy. Foods now can be fresher, cooler and lighter and we can introduce salads and raw foods and juices if our digestive systems are up to that. As the days get longer and the sun gets stronger we may see Pitta types needing to manage the heat in their bodies.

This season in Gather we are going to focus on some spring themes that I feel relate strongly to menopause and aging.

  • Growing allowing ourselves permission to start the things we have always dreamed of doing

  • Vision– whatever we can see we can become, spring is about getting clear on where we are going

  • Joint pain – in Chinese medicine the liver rules the joints and sinews so you may find you experience an increase in joint pain and arthritis if you are not taking care of your liver.

  • Heat rising – as the yang energy rising we may find ourselves feeling angry, impatient and self critical. Tight jaw and shoulders, headaches and insomnia can show up in spring.

  • Foods for Spring – this season in our masterclasses will look at how to cleanse the body through spring we kick of the season with a broth cleanse and detox to ready our bodies for the yang seasons.

  • Anger & Perfectionism - the emotions of spring, we will explore how if we are unable to feel anger how it manifests in other ways.

Text "embracing the flow of the seasons" in elegant font

As winter sinks us into the deep yin months of the year it is time for us find a way to come into our cave. This is the season where we get to restore and replenish our energy, we finally have space and time to review the year to date and reflect on what is working and what isn’t. Are we giving our energy to things we love or draining it by focusing on what we fear? We are invited to step into the darkness and wait for the light to come to us now, no more pushing, no more chasing you have permission to pause and wait for the yang to find you again. Are you courageous enough to meet yourself without distraction?
