Seasonal eating to support balance, well-being, and vitality.

As the days grow cooler and the winds pick up, our bodies naturally crave warmth and nourishment. Autumn is a season of transition, and just as nature shifts, so too should the way we care for ourselves. This is a time to slow down, nourish deeply, and restore balance from within.
Eating seasonal, warming foods helps support digestion, immunity, and overall well-being during this shift. Root vegetables, hearty grains, warming spices, and slow-cooked meals provide the grounding energy our bodies need to stay strong, steady, and resilient as we move toward winter. By aligning with the rhythms of nature, we support both body and mind, embracing the comfort and nourishment this season offers.
We need to strengthen our immunity as we enter autumn increasing warming and drying spices like ginger, pepper, clove, cinnamon, fenugreek and star anise. In Chinese medicine we favour white pungent foods like onion, leek, daikon and radish and foods that support the lungs like cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, apple and pears. All foods are best cooked in autumn to support the digestion.
Dryness is a common issue we see in autumn so if we are having problems with constipation be sure to add ghee to your diet, use minimally if weight gain is an issue for you.
