Yoga
Retreats and Training with Jody Vassallo
Jody
completed her Diploma in Ki Yoga (a yoga derived from the teachings
of Masahiro Oki, who combined the Indian Hatha yoga with the Chinese
and Japanese based meridian system) under Jack Marshall at Zen
Renaissance in Sydney, Australia.
She has been teaching Japanese Yoga in Byron Bay for the past
3 years at Byron Yoga Centre. Jody regularly runs cleansing yoga
and food based intensives where she combines her extensive nutritional
knowledge to help guide students to a healthier approach to their
diet and lifestyle.
Ki Yoga changes daily so that students never
quite know what to expect from a class. Classes are structured
to help students adapt to the climatic changes around them. Working
with the five element system, Ki Yoga works therapeutically by
stimulating meridians in the body through the asanas (postures
or stretches).
Food medicine is also an important part of this
style of yoga and in each class Jody talks about the food that
students can be eating to support themselves in each season. Having
written recipes for the past 15 years Jody is constantly sharing
recipes with students and giving them hints to use at home in
the kitchen.
More recently Jody trained with Rachel Zinman in the Ishta system
– a yoga specifically designed for the individual. ISHTA
– stands for Integrated Science of Hatha Tantra and Ayuveda.
Meditation is a large part of the Ishta system and all of Jodys
classes now include meditation and pranayama.
