Beautiful is a wonderful introduction into the amazing world of Ayurveda, the Indian Science of Life. The book is broken down into three chapters Foods that cool, Foods that warm and Foods for unsettled days. Indian believe we are all made up of the elements Fire, earth, air, water and space, each one of these elements occurring in differing levels in our body. We can be classified into three simple doshas- VATA, PITTA, KAPHA. Vatas tend to be creative types, Pittas are more competitive and Kapha are more moderate to the things. All doshas can be imbalanced Vata types are encouraged to eat grounding foods like root vegetables and dairy foods on unsettled windy days, Pittas will find relief if the increase the cooling foods they add into their diet in hot summery months and Kaphas type will benefit from adding warm drying spices like cinnamon, pepper, turmeric and ginger to their diet on cold damp days.
